2009 Hallowe'en event CHEATS and HINTS

The 2009 Hallowe'en event, also called Web of Shadows, is a currently on-going holiday event that was released on Monday 26 October 2009. The event takes place in the Grim Reaper's house. To access the event, the player can enter the black Player-owned house portal located South of Falador and east of Rimmington, at the same location that the portal was two years ago during the 2007 Hallowe'en event. See the holiday event icon File:Holidayevent.gif on the world map and minimap.

edit Event Walkthrough

[edit] The Grim Reaper's House

The aim of the event was to spin webs around the house of the Grim Reaper, Death. First, talk to the Grim Reaper. He will tell you he has a spider in his bath, and wants it removed. Go upstairs and talk to the spider. He will tell you, in one or two word answers, that the Spider Queen has sent him, and that he will only move if the spider queen tells him to. Go down and report to the Grim Reaper. He will create a web-like portal for you to teleport to the Spider Realm. Enter it, and you will find yourself on the first floor of a four floor dungeon.

[edit] Spider Realm

[edit] First Floor

On the first floor, players will find themselves on a small unstable web. The player must cross web strands to reach the ladder at center of the web, however, only certain web strands can support the player -- If the player crosses a wrong strand, they will fall down and be taken back to the beginning of the web. The player must use trial-and-error to find the correct strands and make their way to the center of the web. Note that there is only one correct path that the player may take, and it is different for every player. (This puzzle is similar to the "Where am I?" puzzle of Lunar Diplomacy, or the "Pit and the Grid" puzzle of Underground Pass, albeit in a much more simple form)

Unstable Web - Entrance to Land of the Spiders.

[edit] Second Floor

A player swinging across a web.

On the second floor is an Agility course style level, requiring the player to swing on webs, cross monkey bars, or tip-toe across web strands. The player must reach the ladder on the northern-most web.

[edit] Third floor

When the player reaches the third level, they can find the Spider Herald. After the player mentions that they are helping the Grim Reaper, the Spider Holy will allow the player to climb the ladder to the level leading to the Queen Spider. There are many other spiders there such as the royal fly catcher, and master web spinner.

[edit] Fourth Floor

The Spider Queen will tell the player that the Grim Reaper offended the spiders by sweeping all webs from his house, upsetting the order of Hallowe'en set by Guthix. The Queen will refuse to move the giant spider from the Grim Reaper's bathroom until his house is again filled with spider webs.

The Queen will instruct the player to talk to the Spider Herald again, who will give the player a companion named Eek. The player is then instructed to return to the Grim Reaper's house, and to fill the house with webs with the help of Eek.

[edit] The Grim Reaper's house (again!)

Talk to the Grim Reaper. After a short conversation with the player and Eek, you will be instructed to place webs all around the Grim Reaper's house. The player will need to hold Eek in their hand, and then left-click any furniture in the house that has the Web option. A total of sixty-four items will need to be webbed in order for the Queen Spider to be satisfied. Eek will also inform the player upon entering any room exactly how many items in that room need to be "webbed". The player can also Talk-to Eek at any time to determine how many items that need to be webbed are remaining in the current room.

Muncher the dog, one-hit-KO'ing a player.

It is advised to travel from room-to-room, looking for any object that Eek can web, and then moving on to the next room when Eek has informed you that the room has enough webs in it. Items that the player should look for are candlesticks, chairs, tables, beds, footlockers, wardrobes, bookcases and fireplaces.

Note that in the room with Muncher, the Grim Reaper's dog, the player will not be allowed to spin any webs until Muncher is satisfied - attempting to do so will result in Eek being scared by Muncher and unable to spin the web. You can right-click Muncher (or simply click Interact to open a dialog box); the player should Entertain him and then let him sniff Eek, so that Muncher can see that Eek is harmless. After Eek states that Muncher likes her, the items in Muncher's room can be webbed by Eek.

Once sixty-four webs have been spun in the house, the player will need to talk to the Grim Reaper to let him know the task is complete, and finally to the Queen Spider to remove the giant spider from the Reaper's bathroom and to claim their reward.

edit Rewards

The rewards for completing Web of Shadows are (Talk to Spider Queen for rewards):

edit Music

Music tracks unlocked:

  • Trick or Treat?
  • Itsy Bitsy....
  • Poison Dreams

edit Trivia

  • Eek the Spider can be put in your menagerie.
  • When talking to Eek the Spider about whether or not you are scared of spiders, saying "Yes, I'm scared of spiders" will result in her in-chat name temporarily changing to "Eek the Eight-Legged Mouse".
  • Within the first couple of minutes on the log-in confirmation screen, Eek the spider could not be seen and the spider was invisible.
  • The name of the Halloween event, "Web of Shadows," may be a reference to the Spider-Man video game of the same name, or the Lego Bionicle movie "Web of Shadows."
  • Around Death's house are grandfather clocks called "death clocks", a possible reference to the fictional death metal band 'Dethklok'.
  • It is impossible to fail an obstacle on the second floor of the spider maze.
  • With this quest, Jagex introduced new chat head. It appears when player asks the Spider Queen: "What about me?"
  • If the player blows a raspberry at Muncher, the dog, he will hit to whatever the player's HP left is. If you have 99 hp left, he will hit a 99 or if you have 50 he will hit a 50. This will 'kill' the player, who reappears in room containing the portal from the Grim Reaper's house. The player does not lose any items. If you are poisned at the time you enter the house, and happen to die, you will respawn back in your respawn point.
  • If the player dies while in the Grim Reaper's house, they will respawn at the house's entrance.
  • When walking around with Eek, you will appear to have no shield if you are wearing one. When you walk, your shield will appear.
  • Eek the Spider and the Halloween Cape can both be stored in the Toy Box of your Costume Room of your POH (Player Owned House).
  • The character in the banner is wearing the Agile top and legs.
  • Eek is a female. When released, the player is given a notice saying, "Eek the spider scurries away. You can pick her up again from Diango in Draynor Village."
  • When walking the spider web, it is possible to walk through air. This happened when you clicked diagonally to the web.
  • If you look on the world map while in the dungeon it shows no "you are here" arrow but gives a blank map showing lumbridge.
  • If you try to rest while on an obstacle on the second floor, it says "You can't rest in that form."
  • Wielding a Toy Kite while navigating the maze causes it to glitch and appear as if it's floating.
  • Death (Grim Reaper) is rolling a Death rune around the fingers on his left hand.

TFC vs The Migrants

Video Link:

STORY

Starting:
TFC - 37
The Migrants - 20

War Summary:
TFC and TM stepped inside the portal with TFC outnumbering TM 2:1. TFC expected for TM
to pull the same numbers as us on this war but shamefully it didn't
happen. The clash of the 2 clans began and both knocking their targets
at the same time but TFC ko power was stronger than TM's and TFC trying to get the gap as high as possible. 10 minutes into the fight, TFC took it's gap to 2:1 kills of TM. TFC didn't look back from their and keeping the gap to 2:1. As the gap widens TFC decided to split into 2 group pilse for fun hehe and it was fun. About 10 mins after splitting into 2 piles TFC's ko power lessen and with TM catching up. TFC
made regrouped @ nw arena to go for a single pile again. This time the
ko power was back and making the gap to 2:1 kills again. As TM didn't pull their numbers like the fight in PvP, TFC didn't get to unleash their beast within them to see if we can perform well with them. Thanks for the fight TM

Ending Kills:
TFC - 110
The Migrants - 63

► 01-Oct-2009 - Display Names

Members are now able to change their display name to something different from their username. This display name is the name by which other players will see you in all Jagex games and across all website features – from the hiscores to the forums. Your username will always remain the same, regardless of what you change your display name to, as this is what you use to log into the game and website. (NB: Everyone’s initial display name is the same as their username.)

Changing your display name
The ability to change display names is currently only available to members of either RuneScape or FunOrb. To change your display name, visit the Account Management section of RuneScape or FunOrb and select ‘Change your display name’. You can then change your display name to anything that is not currently in use by or ‘held’ for (see next paragraph) another player. (NB: Once you have changed your display name, you will be unable to do so again for 28 days, even to revert back to your previous display name, so make sure you are happy with your new name before confirming the change.)

After these 28 days, you will have a period of time in which you can revert back to your previous display name, should you wish. You will have at least 7 days after the 28 days to revert to your previous display name, as it will be ‘held’ for you and unavailable to anyone else in this time. Depending on how long that name was in your possession before you changed it, you may have more than 7 days to revert to your reserved name.

When you change your display name, an icon will appear next to it on your friends’ Friends Lists. This will inform your friends that you have just changed your name and, by hovering their mouse cursor over that icon, they will see what your previous display name was. It will take a while (up to 15 minutes) for your display name to be updated across the website, so your previous display name may still show on the hiscores or forums for this short time.

Offensive display names
Display names allow us to remove names we deem offensive. Previously, we were only able to ban accounts with offensive names; now, we will simply remove the offensive name from the account. Should this happen, you will receive a temporary display name in the form of a random string of numbers (such as “[#123456789]”), and you will not be able to log into the game until you choose a new name. Players who repeatedly choose offensive names will lose the privilege of being able to change their display name for one year, and will instead be assigned one by a Jagex moderator.

Finally, please be patient with the system at this time, as it will be under a lot of load by many players trying to access it. If you do not get a response, please try again at a later time.

Mod Duncan
Web Systems Developer

► Clan of Bathala or C0fb Clan is closing

Thursday, September 17, 2009

eto ang last speech ni boss dirck41 sa mga members nya.. masyadong mahaba at english ang kanyang mga sinabi..bleed nose tuloy ako. haayyzz.. wala po bang tagalog version nito boss dirck??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To all CoB Clanmates and Friends,

I am writing this message in behalf of the CoB Management Team to let all of you know about the decision we have made concerning the verdict of the CoB clan and I apologize to those who haven't been given a heads up by the time this decision was made. But before that..

I have so many people to thank for their support and dedication for this clan that it is impossible for me to get to see you all with the difference in our timezones and my hectic schedule. I truly am humbled to have fought alongside with such a group of comrades to defend the glory of this clan (and for the past clans that we've been together) and I am so proud of the achievements that everyone of you have accomplished both in the clan's operation and (for quite a lot of you) for your own personal accomplishments.

To those who have been and those who have acted as team leaders on my absence, the efforts and contributions have been outstanding.

I have learnt so much within my time of managing and keeping this clan stay on its feet and now possess a greater understanding of the difficulties that most of you encounter. To those of you that I had the opportunity to assist and or set goals for, I commend each of you for your achievements and hope that you continue to succeed not only through your RS life but also in your real life journeys.

I know it's unfair, especially to those who have been loyal to this clan that are still supporting and those who have just joined. The CoB clan has had it's prime and I feel bad for those who didn't get to be a part of it. Due to some circumstances that occured, we realized that CoB has reached its limit. Therefore, it is about time we end this clan for good. Many thanks to all who have been a friend and who have been supportive of the Children of Bathala clan in the long run. It is very much appreciated.

We now declare the end of CoB and leave without any regrets and with a great confidence in the people who have been a part of it, knowing that they are capable of overcoming any hurdles that will come up, singularly, and more importantly, together. We have managed to assemble a competent and practical clan (that some regard of as their second family) that provide good support to each other. This provides me with a sense of pride and gratitude that is indescribable.

Thanks, regards and best wishes,
Dirck41 and Team

11th September 2009 - Machinima Competition Results

Before I get to the opening of any golden envelopes, allow me to go misty eyed for a moment while I reminisce...

Tehnoobshow helped us in launching this competition on our YouTube channel. It wasn’t long before it became clear that August would involve a lot of pizza, popcorn, salami, beer, buffering and general YouTubery.

I can honestly say that I witnessed pure player genius. We laughed so hard we cried (sometimes, I just cried), but, all things told, we were blown away by both the quality and quantity of player videos, which left the judges with the very difficult task of trying to shortlist the submissions. Their mission was to choose their favourite five videos to go into a player polls. They really struggled to reduce the list to six finalists, given the awesome list of videos that were submitted.

The poll has now closed, the judges are hopefully speaking to each other again, and we now know who our grand prize winner and runners-up are. Ladies and gentlemen (and trolls): the winner of the RuneScape machinima competition is...Excl!

Congratulations to Excl, whose video really captured the trauma that so many video makers went through during this competition. Excl wins some signed Jagex goodies, a lifetime RuneScape membership, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Jagex Games Studios! So, pack your bags and dig out your passport, Excl – you’re coming to visit us!

That leaves Arrow gun 99, Bumbum007, Jinsr44, KKcomics and MommaKitty as runners-up. They each win signed Jagex goodies and a lifetime RuneScape membership, so a big congratulations to them too!

We’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who entered and made the competition the event it was. Congratulations, everyone, you truly raised the bar for RuneScape machinima. =) Please do subscribe to our YouTube channel and keep sending us your RuneScape videos!

We’ve got plenty more competitions up our sleeves, but we’ll save the details for the next Community Management blog.

Finally, in the spirit of inviting players to party with us, we’re also asking Excl and a handful of the top players (both free and members) to also join us at our next Studio Jolly later this month.

Take care and have fun!

Mark Gerhard
CEO, Jagex

Dahil kanilang himpilan naibalik mo.

* * *
Subalit ano itong nabalitaan ko?
Nangyari noong Lunes, a-tres ng Agosto,
Habang inililipat ang mga labi mo,
Ika’y parang nabastos sa isang TV show.

At ‘di maaalis sa iyong pag-iisip,
Ang parada ng patay ang pinaliligpit!
At dagdag pa daw ng naghahari-harian,
“I don’t think na dapat n’yong ipakita iyan…”
Nasaan naman ang paggalang, o nasaan?
Mga sinasabi natin minsa’y pag-ingatan.

At ‘di pa nangimi nang sumunod na araw,
Pinilit pa ring ginawa n’ya ay tama raw,
Mga nakarinig ‘di na nakagalaw
At ayon sa iba sila na la’y napa-wow!

“… Pero ako, totoo ‘ko eh … “, sabi kuno,
Totoo nga at totoo ring walang modo,
Pwede namang sabihin itong pa-sikreto,

The breaking news breaks your heart — at ‘yan ang bawi mo,

Mayaman man o mayabang ang tiyak diyan,
Napakayaman n’ya sa kaistupiduhan.

Buti pa ang apat na honor guards ni Cory —
Sina Malab, Laguindan, Rodriguez, Cadiente,
Walong oras tumayo sa ulan at viaje,
Ang lahat ay tiniis at walang sinabi.

Samantalang ikaw na may bubong sa ulo,
Komportable ka lang sa malamig na studio,
Nang kapirasong libing sa TV sumalo,
Angal at inis ang sumambulat sa iyo.

Maaari din namang pabayaan na s’ya,
Subalit ang nangyari’y mabigat talaga,
Namayapang pangulo’y huling paalam na,
‘Di mo pa pinagbigyan … hoy, NAG IISA KA!!!

At nais ko lang sabihin at ipagyabang
Sa mahigit na s’yam na libong tanghalian,
Sa limang pangulong sa Bulaga’y dumaan,
Kahit isa wala kaming nilapastangan.

► How not to get banned if you are using RSBOT or other macro programs

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

from rsbot.org

After Jagex announced their macro detection update a lot of people were naturally concerned about the future of their account. This post aims to address these issues and provide information on staying safe.

It is not told what systems are used to detect macros in RuneScape. It is very common for computer games to use anti-cheat software like PunkBuster or NProtect. These work by scanning your files and running processes. In essence they are like trojan horse or rootkit viruses, but you legally agree to them when you install or sign-up to the game. World of Warcraft even uses a custom designed mechanism. Since this is an industry standard practice it is safe to assume Jagex also has these advanced and unavoidable checks in place for RuneScape.

Knowing this there is good reason to believe when they say "We have reviewed all the macro programs available, and there are none we cannot detect." This means every bot and macro is unsafe - iBot/Nexus, ****, **********, SRL SCAR, SeedBot, SconBot, RSBot and all private or lesser known ones. Here at RSBot we respect our users by being open and honest, if other cheating communities tell you their bot is undetectable they are lying.

Tips for staying unbanned

Most people agree that cheaters play a major role in the game economy as well as giving Jagex more membership sales. Provided you are a responsible and non-disruptive player there is no reason for your account to be banned, regardless of whether they know you use bots. Here is a helpful guideline:

* Limit yourself to botting for a maximum of 8 hours per day
* Only use reliable scripts that have been well tested, like the ones that come in the official download and SVN
* When trying a new script check back on your computer every few minutes to be sure it is working smoothly
* Play legit from time to time - do a quest, go on PVP worlds and make good posts in the official forums
* Do not start botting on more than one account, especially not low level skillers
* Buy membership with a credit card if you can
* Abide by the other game rules so you do not get black marks for offensive language, item scamming et al.

Frequently asked questions

* Loads of people are saying RSBot got their accounts banned, so is it really safe?
o There are people who have been using RSBot on their main accounts for many months without getting warned or banned. It all depends on how you use the bot - cutting Yews 24/7 is very likely to get you banned, using it responsibly as mentioned earlier will not. RSBot is a very powerful tool and it is easy to get carried away if you do not have self-control. Since we have a large community we have a large number of stupid kids that do not know this. If they got banned it was their fault, not the bots.

* RSBot uses BCEL, other bots use reflection. Which one is better?
o The short answer is BCEL. As explained earlier both methods can be detected by Jagex, so neither one provides advantages in terms of safety. However, reflection is a CPU and memory intensive process. This means most people will find that reflection bots heavily lag their computer. BCEL is a much cleaner method which modifies the low level core of the client, resulting in better performance and less CPU requirement.

* Is it a good idea to try out other bots and macros?
o If you have already used RSBot or another cheating program chances are you have already been flagged. Trying more bots will only add fuel to the fire. If anything you should be toning down your cheating activity, not increasing it. If you plan to move away from RSBot to other ones bear in mind you carry a great risk.

* Will RSBot ever die?
o The beauty of open source is that a project like this can never die. Since RSBot was created there have been contributions by over 20 experienced Java programmers and high quality scripts created by many talented people from the community. Despite the bad news from RuneScape our community continues to grow and has become the centre of RuneScape cheating. We won't go down without a fight :)

► TO ALL RSBOT USERS.. READ

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

An update will be ready by the 10th September, the new applet and engine has little effect on the bot. Please wait patiently and do not post about it.

loooll

by anonymous:!!!

There will be a massive ban, I'm not sure if its on that update but there will be one soon. Apparently jagex is trying to find out a way they can find non Rs website clients. So just like Aryan, there will be a massive ban soon. Unless RSBot 2 comes out soon, none of us will be able to bot without getting banned. Btw, when the update comes out and you turn out to be banned when you log in, DO NOT APPEAL AS SOON AS YOU SEE YOU'RE BANNED, THEY'LL PROBABLY AUTO BAN EVERYONE APPEALING FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER UPDATE.

► 2nd September 2009 - RuneTek 5 Game Engine

This week sees the release of a massive upgrade to several elements of the RuneScape game engine. These include the RuneTek 5 graphics upgrade described in last week’s developer blog as well as key parts of the game server and RuneScript systems.

The graphics engine update brings with it a complete revamp of the Standard Detail option, bringing resizable window (for everyone) and fullscreen (members only) modes, as well as optional new features that include:

* Distance fogging and sky colour.
* Ground blending and path smoothing.
* Underwater visibility.

We've also improved High Detail mode with shadowing across all world levels (if your computer can support it) and an improved minimap in both versions. You'll also be pleased to know this upgrade has allowed us to fix several long-standing bugs, including:

* Mis-clicking in heavy load areas (such as the Grand Exchange) causing unwanted actions.
* Progress bars on Grand Exchange interfaces not working on several graphics cards.

Less visibly, we've also taken the time to heavily update parts of the server action and scripting systems. This follows on from work we did earlier in the year which Andrew described in this blog. The aim behind this batch of changes was to try to make the timing of actions more consistent across the game, which will help to make future content bugs less likely. We have done weeks of additional testing on these server updates, however, they are quite extensive and incredibly wide-ranging, so if any bugs have managed to slip through the net, we encourage you to submit a bug report.

All told, we have written or re-written around 50,000 lines of the game engine over the last few months to really improve these key areas and allow us to create a whole new set of exciting upgrades over the coming months and years.

This update to the game engine has allowed us to pull both the SD and HD versions of the game into the same applet. As such, we have updated the home page of the website so there is now only one ‘Click here to play’ button. If you wish to switch between using free or member worlds, this can be done using the ‘World Select’ feature, which can be found on the game applet's main menu.

Whether you see an advert above the login screen or not is dependent on whether the last world that you logged in was a free or a members’ world.

In other news...

One thing the new engine has allowed us to do is create context-sensitive cursors. If you choose to turn this option on in the Game Options menu, your mouse cursor will display a small icon of the default interaction with any object, location or NPC – e.g. “Open Door” will change your mouse cursor to an icon of a door opening. These cursors have not been added for every default interaction just yet, but we will be looking to expand upon them in future.

The Special Attack bar in the combat interface now also displays the amount of special attack energy you have remaining as a percentage.

We’ve made some changes to the World Select page. Firstly, you’ll notice we’ve removed some of the information to clean it up a bit. The Quick Chat and PvP columns have moved into the more general ‘Activity/Location’ column. This column will now only specify a flag and country if the world doesn’t have a theme, and we’ve created a RuneScape flag to go with the latter. On the right-hand side you’ll notice a ‘Ping’ column. This displays the response time between you and the servers – lower is better, so this should help you find a lag-free word near you. Note that some of your preferences may have changed if you were previously sorting by some of the removed columns. Simply select your new preferred choice(s) and it will store those for next time.

Mobilising Armies themed worlds now come in two varieties: worlds where games require four players for a game to start, and worlds where games require 20 players to start. Visit the Themed Worlds page to see how many players are required to start a game on each world.

► Crimson Raiders Defeat Eternal Honor, PvP 6 Day Prep Pkri

Monday, August 31, 2009

POSTED BY: Tj040 clan of Crimson Raiders

On Sunday Eh came to us asking for a 5 hour cap war and they didn't seem to think we'd expect, and not surprisingly to us, we did, since we were going to ask. So the prep's started and from the start we had a better signup than Eh so hopes were high, but we knew that Eh had better organization so we had to be ready. We practiced well over the week and we knew Eh would not end especially after their performance with Cor.

The war started and in about 20 minutes (I wasn't there at this point, what I heard). Eh's pile began to weaken and Cr's was strong, probably due to the numbers, but it was stronger. About an hour into the fight Eh came even and for 45 minutes Eh had the lead or it was tied. Then Cr's lates began to arrive and it was game over. Around the two hour mark Cr's numbered went over 75 and Eh below 60 (vent wise). At our peak we were at 85. So the pressure with our 10 snipers went on hard and our main pile did work on them keeping Eh below 100 options from the 2.5 to 4.5 hour mark.

The last 30 minutes it became almost even with Eh's vent going from 56 to 69 in the last 30 minutes and so it became tough. Our trial's we took off the lineup and our main guys stepped up and kept it together. Time ended at 10 past 9 east and both clans took ending.

Cr Start: 220 (83 On Vent)
Eh start: 180

Cr End: 210
Eh End: 174

^ Cr End

^ Eh End

^ Lol.

Let's keep the topic clean, both clans saw each other clan at up and down points and it was a fun fight. Keep it clean and keep no grudges, especially to have rematchs in the future since it was a great fight.

12 kills - 24 Deaths

Thanks for the Ac's Cor, Tr, and I think Eos.

► 21st August 2009 - The FunOrb Digest

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Since we announced Armies of Gielinor back in January, there have been a number of updates to our sister site, FunOrb. This includes Kickabout League: a fast-paced, arcade-style football (aka soccer) game, with online, real-time multiplayer for up to eight players.

You might not think a football game could have much in common with a fantasy RPG, but Kickabout League encourages you to gain experience for each of your players, buy trinkets to give them new abilities, customise your team’s look, and even trade them on a Grand Exchange-style online auction system. It can also get quite brutal as you pummel, dodge and foul your way up the highscores to the top of the Diamond Division.

Last week saw the release of Steel Sentinels, in which you pilot hulking mechs in frantic multiplayer battles with up to twelve players. The game also features an extensive single-player campaign mode that gives you access to twelve classes of sentinel, including the flight-capable Hurricane-class and the devastating Valhalla-class. Each sentinel can be fully customised and armed with an array of lethal weapons, including guns, rockets, missiles, lasers, plasma launchers, lightning beamers and others even more destructive.

Armies of Gielinor has seen a few updates in that time, too. There are now team games for up to eight players (with team chat); some well-known RuneScape items (e.g. rune armour and rings of life) to boost the effectiveness of your army; a prestige system to show off how skilled you are; plus a host of other tweaks and improvements. The FunOrb team is currently hard at work on a single-player campaign mode.

Then there’s Virogrid, a spiritual successor to the old Jagex game Slime Wars, plus updates to Zombie Dawn (a batch of levels set in the UK), Zombie Dawn Multiplayer (new maps, including a competition winner’s design), Miner Disturbance (a Super Volcano), Brick-a-Brac (new levels) and Escape Vector (new game modes).

Finally, we’ve recently published the results of the FunOrb Q&A session on the FunOrb forums. Click here to read the initial answers and live Q&A.

You can head on over to the FunOrb website to play the above games, and many more, for free, using your RuneScape login details.

► 18th August 2009 - Menagerie, Familiar Controls and Butlers

First off, all combat familiars will now follow you into a fight much more promptly. We’ve also updated the Summoning status globe (the button near the minimap) so that you can configure what happens when you left-click on it. One of the many options will allow you to send your familiar into action against an NPC (or another player on a PvP World) with just one quick click.

If you want a place to keep your pets, you can now do this with a new room for Construction - the menagerie. It’s a pet-owned house to complement your player-owned one, if you will, in which you can store a number of fully grown pets of any kind. You could create a haven for all three god birds, for instance, or build your very own little dragons’ den.

While we’re on the subject of houses, your butler has learned when it’s time to talk and when it’s time to get on with it. So, when you are training and need the same materials you just used, you won’t need to explain what you’re after. If they come back from the bank with logs, you can send them straight to the sawmill. And if the butler’s payment is due and you don’t have any money on you, they can fetch it from your bank the next time you send them there. They also follow you around unless told otherwise. Other features include a ‘Make-x’ option for flatpack furniture and teleport tablets, and some options for the Teleport to House spell. You can set the spell to deposit you outside your house’s portal or into your house (with building mode switched on or off). More details for these updates can be found on the Knowledge Base.

In other news...

All longswords, as well as the rune and dragon scimitars, have received a slight graphical adjustment, as well as having their inventory icons modified to match.

In a similiar fashion to Soul Wars and the Fishing Trawler minigames, we've added an activity bar to the Great Orb Project. As expected, your activity is maintained when contributing, but if the bar drops too low you'll be removed from the game.

► 18th August 2009 - Mobilising Armies Polish

Since the release of Mobilising Armies, we’ve been in-game and scanning the forums to see what has worked well and what hasn’t. As can be expected from a project of this complexity, some things didn’t quite pan out how we intended. So, we’ve made a few amendments that we hope will create a better gaming experience:

The Conflict scenario has changed from 4-player to 2-player
The idea of the Conflict scenario was for players to consider a variety of tactics and to really engage in an all-out battle to the death. There turned out to be one unwanted and dominant tactic, however: wait for the other teams to beat each other up, then join in later when you have the advantage. Although you could argue this was a legitimate tactic, we didn’t feel that doing nothing for a few minutes was any fun. We considered a great many options to fix this, but decided to change this scenario (and only this scenario) to make it 1 versus 1.

Squad levels removed
Mobilising Armies was built with five levels of squad that you could purchase as your Rank increased, which allowed larger amounts of reward credits. The issue with this was that it led to far too many waiting rooms (4 scenarios x 5 ranks = 20 rooms) and, with each room requiring 20 players, we needed 20 x 20 players for a game to start in each room. Even if games started more quickly, there would not be enough players available, so to simplify the waiting rooms, we have changed it so only one level of squad is available. If you previously had higher-level squads in your inventory or bank, you will find them gone and your credits reimbursed as investment credits. This will hopefully make it easier for people to experience all four scenarios.

Waiting room system improved and five simultaneous games
Twenty players are required for a game of Mobilising Armies to start, and, when a player doesn't get picked, they get an increased priority for the next game. Originally, only four out of those twenty players were picked to join a game at a time, but we improved this a little while back so that three games started at any one time. This was only a temporary fix, so five games will now start simultaneously, as soon as there are enough players.

Selling reward items back
When buying rewards, many players felt the best idea was to save up their reward points until they had increased their Rank and unlocked the best rewards, neglecting the earlier rewards. We want you to make use of the lower-level rewards, so you can now sell reward items back to the reward shops in the officers' tower for 100% of their initial cost. This should encourage you to buy the rewards as and when you can afford them, since you can upgrade them at no extra cost. The only exceptions to this are the resource locators and quest kits (which remain a partial trade-in), and spoils of war.

► 11th August 2009 - RuneScape Machinima Competition

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Did you know that “RuneScape” is one of the top five terms searched for on YouTube? As such, we like to check out the latest films made by the many RuneScape movie boffins out there. They’re so good, in fact, that we’ve teamed up with one of RuneScape’s most talented machinima (films made with game engines) masterminds, TehNoobShow, to launch a competition to seek out the most entertaining player-made RuneScape video known to humankind. The rules are simple: create an original video short (around two minutes) that’s both entertaining and creative, in the RuneScape game.

The competition launches today, and you have until the closing date of 25th August to submit your videos on the YouTube website. When the entries are in, Andrew, Mark Gerhard and some video-hungry members of the Community Management team will then shortlist five finalists. Those five videos will then feature in a RuneScape weekly poll, allowing the community to choose their favourite.

The video with the most votes will be declared the winner and will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Jagex Games Studio, from wherever they are in the world, and, once here, they will get to meet the developers and creative types that bring RuneScape to life. We’ll then send them off with an armful of signed Jagex goodies. The four runners-up will bag some membership, autographed t-shirts, mugs, mouse mats, mice and other stuff.

Please note that all videos must be made within RuneScape (live action isn’t machinima), and must be submitted via YouTube. We cannot accept entries sent to the Postbag or Gallery email. For a full list of rules and conditions, and to see an example video from TehNoobShow, subscribe to our YouTube page at www.youtube.com/runescape. If you’ve a question about the competition or are looking for some tips on making your own video, check out this forum thread. We can’t wait to start checking out the contents of your creative brains.

► Knights Of Order Defeat Eternal Reign, 3 hour fight.

Monday, August 3, 2009

POSTED BY Aoshi153 of Knights of Order

ER came to us searching for a PKRI and we accepted without much hesistation because they had plenty of people that disliked us. With this oppurtunity we wished to destroy and shut their mouths for good. ER had 55 members when they declared and grew to 65 in about a day. Our spy got ahold of their sign ups and they had about 50ish yeses with not a single person saying that they weren't able to attend. With this information we pumped the fight even more and did our best to dominate the fight from start to finish.

ER pulled less than us, which made us confident that the victory was in our grasp because we expected 150+ from them. It was evident that KO dominated the battlefield with swift ko's, strong spam towers, and great binds. ER was left to regroup in the first 15 mins and this continued throughout the entire fight. The last hour and a half consisted of ER regrouping with 30 opts in an attempt to outlast us. There was also an instance where they regrouped on another world...Regardless, their leaders finally gave in and called off returning leaving KO victorious.

Starting:
KO - 138

ER - 135 (according to turk)

Ending:
KO - 129

ER - Walked out with 15 opts.

Random pics:

Thanks for the fight and I apologize for any flames, but we were really into the intense and epic battle. THANKS FOR THE AC, EH!!!!!

► 28th July 2009 - Poison Arrow Pub and Aquanite

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

From time to time, we like to open up a forum thread to give you, the players, the chance to come up with specific ideas to add to the game. We then put our favourite ideas into a poll and let the community vote for their favourite. This time, it was to name and fill the vacant pub in Ardougne, and to name a new Slayer creature.

This isn’t because we run out of ideas – far from it! - it’s so you get a chance to genuinely contribute to the content in the game. Of course, we read as many suggestions as we can every day, but running forum threads, discussing your suggestions and knowing that there would be a definite result at the end of the work is a great way to add content to the game.

So, this month, we’re delighted to add the Poison Arrow pub to Ardougne and the aquanite Slayer creature. The pub is just south of Ardougne’s east bank and is filled with a host of suggestions that all came from you! The aquanite is a level 78 Slayer creature that deals magic damage, so do take care if you’re going to visit. You’ll find them at the end of the Fremennik Slayer Dungeon, past the kurasks – you can’t miss them.

► 28th July 2009 - Animation Pack 1

Recent additions to the RuneScape engine have allowed us to make some improvements to the game’s animations.

As you can see by the heading, this release is called Animation Pack 1, as this will be an ongoing project. These improvements will take time, however, so we have grouped the animations that we're improving into packs, so we can release them as we complete them, rather than keeping you waiting.

This pack focuses on some of the most popular melee weapons and their animations (abyssal whip, the godswords, Zamorakian spear, Saradomin sword, Dharok’s axe, and dragon and rune longswords and scimitars), tweening (animation smoothing), and updates to the Agility animations.

We hope you enjoy these updates as much as we've enjoyed creating them; make sure to keep an eye out for future animation updates.

For a more in-depth look at these improvements, check out this recent dev blog. It takes you through the process in more detail.

► 21st July 2009 - The Curse of Arrav

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

In your adventures you may have heard of an unusual gathering in the north - a gathering of powerful and dangerous creatures called the Mahjarrat. Ali the Wise has received news from one of his contacts of a tunnel underneath the area where the Mahjarrat are supposedly gathering. It’s not a natural cave, either: someone deliberately made it. But who? What connection did they have to the Mahjarrat now gathering above? Have they left any clues behind? Some exploring may be in order!

This quest is a continuation of the Mysteries of the Mahjarrat quest series. It’s also a sequel to a previous quest I wrote - Defender of Varrock. I’m glad that I got to expand on some of the themes I started in the previous Arrav-based quest. There is more to come, though…
